Multiple pollsters project BJP-led alliance crossing majority mark comfortably

April 29, 2026: Exit poll predictions indicate a strong victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance in the Assam Assembly Elections. Pollsters like Matrize and Axis My India project the NDA securing between 85 and 100 seats, well above the majority mark of 64. In contrast, the Congress-led alliance is expected to trail significantly, with projections ranging between 24 and 36 seats.

Surveys also reflect strong leadership support for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, with nearly half of respondents favouring him for the top post. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi trails behind in approval ratings. The state recorded a high voter turnout of over 85 per cent in the single-phase polling held on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4.

In terms of alliances, BJP contested alongside the Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front, while the Congress formed a broader coalition with several regional parties. Meanwhile, parties like the All India United Democratic Front and UPPL chose to contest independently. While Assam trends strongly favour the NDA, projections in West Bengal remain mixed, indicating a more competitive race.
