Bhagwant Mann moves President Droupadi Murmu seeking action against rebel MPs led by Raghav Chadha.
May 5, 2026: A political showdown has erupted after several leaders, including Raghav Chadha, exited the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Rajya Sabha. Bhagwant Mann met Droupadi Murmu, demanding termination of the MPs’ membership, arguing that such a merger lacks legal backing.
Mann criticised the move as unconstitutional, stating that the MPs should have resigned before switching parties. He accused them of undermining democratic norms and urged that their membership be revoked, even calling for legal amendments if necessary. The development comes amid growing tensions within AAP following the exit of seven MPs from Punjab.
Responding sharply, Chadha accused the AAP government of “vendetta politics” and misusing state machinery to target dissenting leaders. He defended the decision to leave the party, saying it was a constitutional right. The shift has strengthened BJP’s position in the Rajya Sabha while reducing AAP’s strength significantly, intensifying the political battle.
