May 25, 2026: Alka Lamba was convicted by the Rouse Avenue Court in connection with the July 2024 Mahila Congress protest held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The court held Lamba guilty in the case linked to the demonstration led under her leadership and fixed June 5 for arguments on sentencing.
According to the case details, Lamba was accused of allegedly pushing and obstructing government officials during the protest, disrupting official work, violating lawful orders and blocking a public road. The protest had been organised by the Mahila Congress demanding implementation of women’s reservation in legislatures.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had issued notice to Delhi Police on Lamba’s plea seeking quashing of the FIR after her revision petition against framing of charges was dismissed by Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh. The court observed that eyewitness statements and electronic evidence established a prima facie case against her. The case was registered under Sections 132, 221, 223(a) and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
