Cyberabad Police added stricter provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and POCSO Act in the case involving Bandi Sai Bhageerath.

May 18, 2026: The Cyberabad Police on Sunday announced major changes in the FIR registered against Bandi Sai Bhageerath in an alleged sexual assault case involving a minor girl. Police said additional stringent sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act were added after examining the victim’s statement and other witness testimonies.

According to police commissioner M Ramesh, investigators invoked Section 64(2)(m) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to repeated sexual assault, along with aggravated penetrative sexual assault provisions under the POCSO Act. Officials said the accused was apprehended by the Special Operations Team near Narsingi on May 16 and later remanded to 14-day judicial custody after medical examination.

Police officials said Bhageerath’s mobile phone has been sent for forensic examination and investigators are analysing chats, videos, photographs and CCTV footage linked to the case. Authorities are also probing the alleged involvement of his associates after the victim’s family claimed some individuals attempted to suppress the matter and broker a settlement. Police are expected to seek custody of the accused for further interrogation.
