An LPG cylinder blast at a utensil-colouring factory in Delhi’s Mukundpur area caused a building collapse

June 2, 2026: At least 11 people were rescued after a powerful LPG cylinder blast caused a single-storey building housing a utensil-colouring factory to collapse in Delhi’s Mukundpur area on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred in Ishu Vihar near the cremation ground, prompting an immediate response from the Delhi Fire Services, police, and rescue teams. One woman sustained severe burn injuries and was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in critical condition, while the remaining injured workers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to officials, preliminary investigations suggest the explosion may have occurred during the transfer of gas from large commercial cylinders to smaller LPG cylinders inside the factory. Several cylinders were recovered from the site, and authorities suspect unsafe gas-handling practices may have triggered the blast. The 250-square-yard structure collapsed following the explosion, trapping workers under the debris.

Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and a dog squad carried out extensive search operations to ensure no one remained trapped. Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud explosion before rushing to help remove debris and rescue victims. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident, while officials continue to assess safety violations and the exact cause of the blast.
