Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed officials to remain on maximum alert as heavy rainfall
July 6, 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday reviewed the state’s flood and rain situation at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Mumbai’s Mantralaya and instructed officials to remain on high alert for the next 48 hours. The meeting, attended by senior ministers, top officials and district administrations via video conference, focused on preparedness for heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides.
The Chief Minister ordered detailed contingency plans for vulnerable areas, particularly as rivers in Raigad, Palghar and Ratnagiri have crossed the danger mark. The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall of up to 350 mm in parts of Nashik, prompting evacuation orders and emergency deployment in high-risk areas.
Fadnavis also reviewed arrangements for the Palkhi Sohla, directing officials to ensure the safety of Warkaris after floodwaters submerged all four bridges leading into Alandi. He instructed the Pune district administration to prevent devotees from entering Alandi and instead guide them directly towards Pune. Palghar and the Konkan region remain under a Red Alert, with around 500 residents already being shifted to safer locations. The Chief Minister said weather conditions are expected to improve from July 8, but the next two days will remain critical.
Highlighting the severity of the monsoon, Fadnavis said Mumbai has received nearly 90 per cent of its average July rainfall within just four days, resulting in hundreds of tree-fall incidents. He warned of stronger winds and possible dam water releases in central Maharashtra, urging authorities to evacuate landslide-prone areas and strengthen safety measures at construction sites. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed across affected districts, while officials have also been directed to coordinate with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to restore traffic on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from beaches during high tide and follow all official advisories.
