G. Parameshwara was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister as DK Shivakumar officially assumed office as Karnataka’s new Chief Minister
June 3, 2026: DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday during a ceremony held at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru. Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy at 4:05 PM. Senior Congress leader G. Parameshwara also took oath and assumed the position of Deputy Chief Minister.
Shivakumar’s elevation follows his unanimous election as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) during a meeting held on May 30. The swearing-in marks the formal beginning of a new phase in Karnataka politics under Congress leadership after months of discussions regarding the state’s leadership transition.
Along with Shivakumar and Parameshwara, 12 other leaders were inducted into the cabinet. The ministers include K. H. Muniyappa, K. J. George, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Priyank Kharge, M. B. Patil, Satish Jarkiholi, Krishna Byre Gowda, Ramalinga Reddy, U. T. Khader, Eshwar Khandre, Byrathi Suresh and Dr Sharan Prakash Patil.
