A sudden dust storm disrupted normal life across Delhi-NCR, prompting the IMD to issue an orange alert for thunderstorms, rain, lightning

June 23, 2026: A powerful dust storm swept through parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday afternoon, reducing visibility and disrupting daily activities across several areas. Residents of Delhi, Gurugram and Noida experienced dusty skies and strong gusts as weather conditions deteriorated rapidly. In response, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, warning of thunderstorms, rain and high-speed winds across the region.

The IMD forecast that the dust storm would be followed by thunderstorms, lightning and light rainfall in many parts of the National Capital Region. Wind speeds are expected to range between 50 kmph and 80 kmph, creating the possibility of traffic disruptions, reduced visibility and risks to commuters. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the adverse weather conditions.

Meteorologists said the weather system first affected parts of Gurugram before moving toward Delhi and nearby districts. The impact is likely to extend to several areas in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, including Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Rewari, Palwal, Bagpat, Sikandrabad, Barsana, Alwar and Deeg. Officials have urged people to stay alert as the weather disturbance continues to move across the region.
