The Special Investigation Team is expected to submit its final report on the alleged Ram Temple donation embezzlement

July 16, 2026: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is expected to submit its final report to the Uttar Pradesh government shortly. The three-member SIT, constituted on June 13, was tasked with investigating the allegations and its findings are expected to lead to major reforms in the temple’s administration and donation-counting system. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is scheduled to review the report during its meeting on July 22.

A preliminary report submitted last month led to the registration of an FIR, the arrest of several accused, and the resignation of senior trust officials. The matter has also reached the Supreme Court, which has sought a status report from the SIT while hearing petitions seeking a fair and time-bound investigation. The petitions have also demanded a CBI probe, forensic audit, and CAG audit of the trust’s finances.

Meanwhile, trust treasurer Govind Dev Giri Maharaj said the trust supports both the SIT investigation and the Supreme Court’s oversight. He announced several corrective measures, including pocketless uniforms for staff handling cash, removal of CCTV blind spots, stricter supervision during donation counting, and enhanced security checks. So far, the investigation has resulted in the arrest of eight accused, the resignation of two trust functionaries, and the recovery of allegedly siphoned donation money.
