Ten people were injured after unidentified attackers allegedly opened fire on villagers protesting against illegal mining
June 1, 2026: A violent clash broke out on Monday in the Ajitpura-Kujeta area of Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district when unidentified men allegedly attacked villagers protesting against illegal mining operations. According to police, the assailants opened fire on protesters gathered at a sit-in demonstration, leaving ten people injured. Three of the injured were referred to Jaipur for advanced treatment due to the seriousness of their wounds.
Police said the villagers had been protesting against mining and deep-hole blasting near residential areas for several weeks. Witnesses claimed that a group of men arrived in multiple vehicles, opened fire, pelted stones, and vandalised motorcycles before fleeing the scene. Authorities recovered two cartridge cases from the site and have launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
The incident has triggered political reactions, with Rashtriya Loktantrik Party chief and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal accusing mining mafias of openly challenging law and order. He questioned the state government over alleged inaction against illegal mining networks. Heavy police deployment has been made in the area, while officials await medical reports to determine the exact nature of the injuries.
