Attacker Overpowered, Police Investigation Underway

A violent attack at the Golden Temple in Amritsar left five people injured, including two sewadars (volunteers) of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The attacker, identified as Zulfan from Haryana, was swiftly overpowered by devotees and later arrested by the police.

How the Attack Unfolded
🔹 The incident took place near Guru Ram Das Langar, where devotees were gathered.
🔹 The attacker and an accomplice allegedly conducted a recce of the area before executing the assault.
🔹 The main accused left the premises and returned armed with an iron rod, launching a brutal attack on SGPC staff and devotees who tried to intervene.
🔹 The injured have been admitted to Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research.

Security Concerns & Police Investigation
📌 The police are investigating the motive behind the attack and have urged the public not to panic.
📌 SGPC has lodged an official complaint against the assailant.
📌 The attack has reignited concerns about the security of devotees visiting the sacred Sikh shrine.

Amritsar Police officer Sarmel Singh stated that the main accused sustained injuries in the scuffle and is currently under police custody.
Security Lapses at Golden Temple
This incident comes months after a security breach in December 2024, when a man opened fire at former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal near the temple entrance.
With repeated security incidents, the Sikh community is demanding heightened protection measures at the Golden Temple to prevent future attacks.
