Indian-origin engineering leader Sheetal Wrzesien was allegedly shot dead at her Georgia home

July 12, 2026: An Indian-origin senior technology executive at Google was allegedly shot dead by her husband in the US state of Georgia in a suspected domestic violence incident. The victim, 57-year-old Sheetal Wrzesien, was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside the family’s home in Smyrna, near Atlanta, after police responded to reports of gunfire on Tuesday night. She later succumbed to her injuries. The couple’s 23-year-old son, Jason Wrzesien, was also shot and taken to hospital for treatment. Authorities arrested Sheetal’s husband, 56-year-old Kirk B. Wrzesien, at the scene.

Police have charged Kirk Wrzesien with one count of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Centre. Investigators have classified the case as an incident of domestic violence and said there is no ongoing threat to the public. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been disclosed, and officials have not released an update on the son’s condition.

Sheetal Wrzesien was an accomplished engineering leader at Google with more than two decades of experience in the technology industry. Before joining Google, she led digital transformation initiatives at Home Depot and held leadership roles in the weather technology and fintech sectors. A graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, she was also an inventor on two software patents, served on the Georgia Tech College of Computing Advisory Board, and was a trustee of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association. She is survived by her two children, Jason and Jessica.
