Indian Railways introduces summer special trains to ease travel rush on key routes
April 15, 2026: Indian Railways has announced a series of summer special trains to handle the seasonal surge in passenger traffic, especially on routes connecting major cities with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The move comes as holiday travel peaks, making it increasingly difficult for passengers to secure confirmed tickets. By adding extra services, the railways aims to reduce congestion and ensure smoother long-distance travel.
Every year, summer holidays lead to a sharp increase in demand, with trains running at full capacity and waitlists growing rapidly. To address this, the railways has activated additional services linking cities like Mumbai, Gujarat hubs and Kolkata with high-demand destinations in northern states. One of the key services is the Udhna–Jaynagar unreserved special train (09091/09092), which will run via major stations including Vadodara, Kota, Agra Fort, Kanpur Central, Gorakhpur and Darbhanga.
These special trains are expected to provide greater flexibility for passengers and improve the chances of getting confirmed tickets. The inclusion of unreserved coaches also offers relief to last-minute travellers who often struggle during peak season. With summer being one of the busiest travel periods, this initiative is aimed at easing overcrowding and enhancing overall passenger convenience.
