Senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar has been appointed as the new Delhi Police Commissioner

July 17, 2026: Senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar was appointed as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police on Friday, replacing Satish Golcha, whose tenure was originally scheduled to continue until April 2027. The appointment marks a significant leadership change at the top of the Delhi Police and comes just months after a major administrative reshuffle across the force.

Earlier this year, the Delhi Police carried out a large-scale restructuring involving the transfer and posting of 70 officers, including 50 IPS and 20 DANIPS officers. Approved by the Lieutenant Governor, the reshuffle covered key positions across crime, traffic, security, district policing, and specialised units, with the aim of strengthening leadership across critical wings of the force.

Several senior officers were also assigned new responsibilities during the restructuring. Sanjay Kumar Jain was appointed Officer on Special Duty to the Commissioner, while Dheeraj Kumar took charge of the Crime Branch and Anti-Narcotics Task Force. Other appointments included Kime Kamjing, Ajit Kumar Singla, Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, and several new Deputy Commissioners of Police across Delhi districts. Anurag Kumar’s appointment marks the latest step in the force’s ongoing administrative overhaul.
