Kapil Sibal accused the BJP, VHP and Bajrang Dal of exploiting Lord Ram after the SIT probe into the alleged Ram Temple donation
July 2, 2026: Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Thursday criticised the BJP, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal over the alleged embezzlement of Ram Temple donations, accusing them of exploiting Lord Ram for political gain. In a post on X, Sibal alleged that the organisations sought votes in the name of Lord Ram and described them as “fake Hindus” while targeting their handling of the alleged donation scam.
The controversy follows a preliminary report submitted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government. Based on the findings, an FIR was registered on June 25, and eight accused have since been arrested. Police said nearly ₹80 lakh in cash, along with foreign currency, has been recovered from six of the accused, while the investigation remains ongoing.
Reacting to the case, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said those found guilty would face exemplary punishment and that speedy justice would be ensured. The BJP has maintained that the matter will be investigated and handled strictly in accordance with the law.
