Army, NDRF, Railways and multiple agencies continue round-the-clock rescue operations as several workers are still feared trapped under the debris.
June 26, 2026: The death toll in the Taratala warehouse collapse in south Kolkata has risen to 15 after two more bodies were recovered from the debris and two injured workers died during treatment. Rescue teams, including personnel from the Army, NDRF, Kolkata Police and the state disaster management group, continued search operations on Friday, two days after the warehouse roof collapsed. Authorities said several people are still feared trapped beneath the rubble.
Officials identified one of the deceased as 19-year-old Mannu Kumar from Bihar’s Munger district, who had been rescued alive and underwent surgery before succumbing to his injuries. His brother had also died in the accident, while their father remains hospitalized. According to officials, 18 injured workers are currently undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital. Rescue teams have deployed cameras beneath the debris and are also using mobile phone tower data to locate those who may still be trapped.
The Indian Railways joined the rescue effort after the NDRF sought assistance in cutting through twisted steel structures using oxy-cutting machines. Authorities said operations are progressing cautiously due to the unstable condition of the damaged building. The warehouse roof collapsed on Wednesday afternoon on Transport Depot Road in Taratala, trapping several workers inside. Officials have confirmed that rescue operations will continue until every section of the debris has been thoroughly searched.
