Household kitchen budgets and refill routines are set for a major shift as new LPG regulations take effect tomorrow, May 1, 2026. Major oil marketing companies (OMCs), including Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas, are implementing stricter delivery and booking protocols across India. These updates are designed to curb black marketing, prevent the diversion of subsidized cylinders for commercial use, and ensure that benefits reach the intended beneficiaries through digitized tracking.

Mandatory OTP and Longer Booking Gaps

The most significant change for urban and rural consumers is the introduction of a mandatory Delivery Authentication Code (DAC).

OTP-Based Delivery: Upon booking a refill, an OTP will be sent to the consumer’s registered mobile number. This code must be shared with the delivery executive to complete the transaction. Traditional paper documents like the “blue book” will no longer suffice for authentication.

Restricted Booking Windows: To prevent hoarding, the minimum gap between two bookings has been increased. In urban areas, consumers must now wait 25 days (up from 21 days) between refills. In rural regions, this gap can extend up to 45 days.

Mandatory eKYC for Ujjwala Beneficiaries

For beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), completing Aadhaar-based biometric eKYC is now a non-negotiable requirement.

  • Subsidy at Risk: Beneficiaries who fail to complete this verification may find their subsidy credits paused or face difficulties in placing new orders.
  • Verification Process: Consumers can complete their eKYC by visiting their local distributor’s office or through the official mobile apps of their respective gas providers.

Anticipated Price Revisions

As is customary on the first of every month, OMCs are expected to review and potentially revise LPG prices tomorrow. Given the ongoing volatility in global crude oil markets and supply chain disruptions, experts suggest a possible hike in both domestic and commercial cylinder rates. Consumers are advised to check the MyLPG portal early on May 1 for the latest pricing in their specific cities.
