Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra alleged that a group of men harassed her onboard an IndiGo flight

May 7, 2026: Mahua Moitra has alleged harassment onboard an IndiGo flight while travelling to Delhi for a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence meeting. In a post on X, the TMC leader claimed that a group of four to six men onboard flight 6E 719 repeatedly stared at her and later began chanting “Jai Shri Ram” after the aircraft landed but before the cabin doors were opened. Moitra said she was seated in seat 1F and described the incident as a violation of passenger safety inside the aircraft.

According to Moitra, the group boarded together and later moved towards the rear section of the plane before allegedly raising slogans. Rejecting claims that the behaviour reflected “citizen anger,” she termed it targeted harassment and demanded strict action against those involved. She also urged the airline to release the crew report related to the incident and place the passengers on a no-fly list. Moitra tagged Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu in her social media post while seeking intervention.

The controversy comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal following the recent Assembly election results. The incident quickly sparked reactions online, with journalist and TMC leader Sagarika Ghose publicly supporting Moitra and calling the alleged behaviour unacceptable. She urged IndiGo to ensure passenger safety and maintain civic conduct onboard flights.
