Authorities have arrested hundreds of drug peddlers, attached assets worth over ₹45 crore

June 17, 2026: The anti-drug campaign across Jammu division has recorded significant progress, with authorities arresting more than 700 drug peddlers and attaching or demolishing assets worth over ₹45 crore. During a review meeting of the 100-day anti-drug campaign, officials revealed that 598 FIRs had been registered and 701 alleged drug traffickers arrested. A total of 155 drug hotspots were also identified across the region under the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan’.

Officials said large quantities of narcotics were seized, including more than 14 kg of heroin, 49 kg of ganja, 3.7 kg of charas and over 204 kg of poppy straw. Authorities also destroyed illicit poppy cultivation, wild cannabis crops and illegal liquor. As part of the crackdown, 62 immovable properties worth ₹19.3 crore were demolished, while additional properties and movable assets worth over ₹26 crore were seized or attached. Several passports, driving licences and vehicle registrations linked to offenders were also suspended or cancelled.

The campaign has also focused on rehabilitation and prevention. Out of 2,293 identified drug users, 884 youth were selected for rehabilitation, with 547 already rehabilitated and 254 connected to self-employment schemes. Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar stressed the need to strengthen rehabilitation centres, counselling services and employment opportunities for recovering youth, while Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti noted that the campaign had achieved substantial success in curbing drug abuse and trafficking across Jammu division.
