According to police, the accused was taken into custody within 24 hours of the incident and later sent to judicial custody. Despite the arrest, demonstrators remained on the streets, demanding further action and staging protests in different parts of the city.
Police said they urged protesters to shift their demonstration to a designated location, but tensions escalated during the confrontation. Videos from the protest site showing heated exchanges between police personnel and protesters have gone viral on social media. Authorities alleged that certain individuals attempted to provoke the crowd and disrupt public order, while protesters maintained that they were peacefully seeking justice for the victim.
The case has also taken a political turn, with leaders from multiple parties visiting the victim’s family and accusing their rivals of exploiting the incident for political purposes. BJP and opposition parties have traded allegations over the handling of both the murder investigation and the protests. Leaders including Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati have raised concerns about justice and the treatment of the victim’s family, while police said the legal process is continuing and urged the public to maintain peace. As a precaution, the administration has also restricted access to the victim’s village.
