The price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinder has been increased again, marking the third consecutive hike as rising global energy costs

June 1, 2026: The 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinder, commonly known as the “chotu cylinder”, has become more expensive from June 1. Oil marketing companies have increased the price by ₹11, taking the retail rate in Delhi to ₹821.50 per cylinder. The latest revision comes amid rising energy costs linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia and follows earlier hikes in April and May.

The small LPG cylinder is widely used by migrant workers, roadside vendors, tea stalls, and small businesses because it does not require the documentation needed for regular domestic LPG connections. With this latest increase, the 5-kg cylinder segment has witnessed three consecutive price hikes in recent months, adding pressure on low-income households and small entrepreneurs who depend on it for daily cooking needs.

Commercial LPG users have also been hit by higher fuel costs. The price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder has been increased by ₹42 in Delhi, taking the rate to ₹3,113.50. Industry experts believe the continuous rise in LPG prices may eventually lead to higher food prices as restaurants, hotels, caterers, and small eateries pass on the increased operating costs to consumers. The sharp increase in both commercial and small-cylinder LPG prices reflects the broader impact of global crude oil volatility on India’s energy market.
