Specialised teams, boats and canine units have been deployed as rescue operations continue amid difficult terrain

June 28, 2026: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has intensified search and rescue operations to trace three people who remain missing after a flash flood struck the NEEPCO Colony near Possa village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district on June 24. Five people were initially reported missing in the incident. Authorities have recovered two bodies so far, while efforts continue to locate the remaining victims.

NDRF Deputy Commandant Anand Patel said the rescue teams are using specialised equipment, boats and trained canine units to carry out the search. He explained that although the district administration and police began rescue efforts immediately after the flood, NDRF teams could not reach the affected area for the first two days because roads were blocked. Additional teams equipped with advanced rescue gear are expected to join the operation to strengthen search efforts.

Officials said the operation has been slowed by difficult conditions, including hilly terrain, large volumes of floating debris, hazardous materials and unpredictable weather. Despite these challenges, the NDRF has reaffirmed its commitment to locating the remaining missing persons as rescue operations continue across the affected area.
