A 28-year-old woman was found dead outside an NDMC residential building in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony

July 6, 2026: A 28-year-old newlywed woman, identified as Akriti, was found dead under suspicious circumstances outside an NDMC residential building in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony on July 4. According to police, she was discovered critically injured after an alleged fall from the third floor of Palika Kunj and was taken to AIIMS, where doctors declared her brought dead. Following the incident, police arrested her husband and initiated a dowry death investigation.

According to the victim’s family, Akriti had spoken to them while returning home from work before her phone suddenly became unreachable. Hours later, police informed them that she had been admitted to hospital after allegedly jumping from the building. The family has rejected the suicide claim, alleging that she was subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband and in-laws after marriage over issues including pressure to quit her job.

As Akriti died within seven years of her marriage, police initiated mandatory inquest proceedings under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate informed as required by law. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case, including the family’s allegations of foul play, are being thoroughly examined.
