The NIA has chargesheeted 11 accused for allegedly expanding the activities of a Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) offshoot through radicalisation

June 26, 2026: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against 11 accused in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy linked to Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of the banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorist organisation. The chargesheet was submitted before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. According to the agency, the accused were involved in activities aimed at spreading extremist ideology in West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura.

The investigation found that IMK was established by senior JMB member Imam Mahmud Habibullah to strengthen the banned organisation’s presence in India. The accused allegedly organised secret meetings, conducted religious indoctrination programmes, circulated extremist literature, and used digital platforms to promote anti-India propaganda while encouraging allegiance to the group’s leadership. The NIA identified Nasimuddin as the alleged head of IMK activities in Assam and Jagir Mia as the key operative in Tripura.

During the investigation, the agency recovered several incriminating documents, electronic devices, and digital records that it says support the charges against the accused. The case, registered as RC-01/2026/NIA/GUW, remains under investigation as officials continue to examine the wider network and activities of the alleged terror module.
