The Char Dham Yatra has crossed 40 lakh pilgrims this season, while officials continue to strengthen healthcare

June 26, 2026: The ongoing Char Dham Yatra has crossed the 40 lakh pilgrim milestone this season, with over 4,003,158 devotees visiting the Himalayan shrines and associated destinations till June 25, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC). On Wednesday alone, 37,617 pilgrims completed the journey safely. Badrinath Dham recorded the highest daily footfall with 17,332 visitors, followed by Kedarnath Dham (8,618), Gangotri Dham (3,674), and Yamunotri Dham (3,098). Overall, Kedarnath remains the most-visited shrine this season with more than 13.2 lakh pilgrims, closely followed by Badrinath.

Officials confirmed that 201 pilgrims have died due to health-related ailments during the first 67 days of the yatra, from April 19 to June 25. Kedarnath accounted for 94 deaths, followed by Badrinath (63), Yamunotri (26), and Gangotri (18). The figure is higher than the 142 health-related deaths recorded during the corresponding period last year. Despite this, temple authorities said the pilgrimage has remained well-managed, with a steady flow of devotees and improved administrative arrangements throughout the season.

To enhance pilgrim safety, the Uttarakhand government has deployed 178 medical officers, 25 specialist doctors, and 414 paramedical staff across the yatra route. Healthcare infrastructure has been strengthened with 47 permanent medical facilities, 25 Medical Relief Posts, 57 health screening kiosks, and 177 ambulances. Helicopter rescue services, including heli-ambulance support from AIIMS Rishikesh, remain operational, while multilingual health advisories and awareness campaigns continue to guide pilgrims travelling to the high-altitude shrines.
