Bomb threat emails targeting the Bihar Chief Minister’s residence, the Secretariat
July 21, 2026: Security agencies across Bihar were placed on high alert on Tuesday after threatening emails claimed that the Bihar Chief Minister’s residence, the Secretariat, and four schools in Patna would be targeted in bomb blasts. The email, sent to the Rural Development Department and Bihar Bhavan, warned of explosions at the Secretariat during the afternoon and later at the Chief Minister’s office and official residence. Following the threat, Ravi Kumar, Joint Secretary of the Rural Development Department, lodged a formal police complaint, triggering an immediate security response.
Police, bomb disposal squads and dog squads were deployed at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister’s office, official residence and other identified locations. Security was further intensified as the Bihar Legislature’s Monsoon Session is currently underway. Authorities conducted extensive searches at government buildings, including the Main Secretariat and the Rural Development Department, but no suspicious objects had been found at the time of reporting. Investigators have also launched an inquiry to trace the origin and authenticity of the threatening email.
The threat also extended to four schools in Patna’s Danapur area, prompting the evacuation of students and staff. The affected institutions included the senior and junior wings of Delhi Public School, Army Public School, and Radiant International School. Police secured the campuses while bomb disposal and dog squads carried out searches before students were safely handed over to their parents. Officials said the email was written in English with Punjabi phrases and reportedly contained references linked to pro-Khalistan messaging, which is also being examined as part of the investigation.
