Delhi Police said plainclothes Special Staff personnel were deployed during the ‘Chalo Parliament’ march
July 21, 2026: Questions were raised after several people carrying batons, but not wearing Delhi Police or Rapid Action Force (RAF) uniforms, were seen during the students’ protest and the ‘Chalo Parliament’ march in the national capital. Police sources said the demonstration drew an exceptionally large crowd, prompting the deployment of Special Staff personnel in plain clothes to assist with security arrangements.
According to police sources, four FIRs have been registered so far in connection with violence, vandalism and other incidents that occurred during the July 20 protest, while two more cases are being prepared. The FIRs have been lodged at Parliament Street, Connaught Place, and other police stations under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
Police said one FIR relates to violence and alleged stone-pelting near Regal Cinema in Connaught Place, while other cases involve unlawful assembly, unauthorised drone use during the Parliament session, and an alleged conspiracy behind the violence. Authorities also said additional FIRs are expected over allegations of assault, obstruction of public servants, criminal conspiracy and other offences as the investigation continues.
