Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta
July 6, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jakarta on Monday, marking the start of his three-nation tour with a ceremonial welcome by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. In a special gesture, the Indonesian President received PM Modi at the airport, while fighter jets from the Indonesian Air Force escorted his aircraft after it entered Indonesian airspace. Upon arrival, the Prime Minister witnessed a traditional cultural performance organised in his honour.
PM Modi’s three-day visit is his first bilateral trip to Indonesia since the two countries elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. The visit follows President Prabowo’s participation as the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations earlier this year. During his stay, PM Modi is expected to hold talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in key areas, including trade, security, defence and cultural exchanges.
Ahead of the visit, the Prime Minister highlighted the deep civilisational and people-to-people ties between India and Indonesia. He said he would interact with the Indian diaspora and visit the historic Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta with President Prabowo, describing it as a symbol of the two nations’ shared cultural heritage. Indonesia is the first stop on PM Modi’s three-nation tour, which will also include visits to Australia and New Zealand.
