Investigators say the lie detector test could help verify statements and uncover fresh leads in the alleged murder of Pune developer Ketan Agarwal.

July 2, 2026: A court has approved a polygraph (lie detector) test for accused Siya Goyal in the alleged murder of Pune-based developer Ketan Agarwal at Lohagad Fort. Investigators sought the test, saying it could help verify statements and generate fresh leads in a case that currently relies largely on circumstantial evidence. Police allege that Goyal and her boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, pushed Agarwal off a cliff on June 19, but have told the court they do not yet have conclusive evidence identifying who caused the fatal fall.

According to the police, there were no eyewitnesses to the incident, and CCTV cameras did not capture the exact spot where Agarwal fell. Investigators also suspect that digital evidence was tampered with, alleging that the accused deleted call records and mobile phone files before and after June 18. They further said conflicting statements by the accused and family members regarding wedding preparations have made it difficult to establish a clear motive.

Police argued that a polygraph test could help verify statements and identify contradictions that may lead to new evidence. However, under Indian law, the test can only be conducted with the accused’s voluntary consent before a Judicial Magistrate and after access to legal counsel. While polygraph results are not admissible as substantive evidence in court, any independently verified evidence discovered through the examination can be used during the investigation. Police said the probe into Ketan Agarwal’s death is still ongoing.
