Rahul Gandhi alleged that India’s education system has become “rigged,” citing 152 paper leaks in a decade and demanding accountability
July 22, 2026: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday described India’s education system as a “rigged system,” alleging that repeated examination paper leaks had shattered students’ confidence. Citing figures he claimed reflected the scale of the crisis, Gandhi said 152 paper leaks had occurred over the past 10 years, affecting nearly 7.5 crore students and their families. He alleged that despite the repeated incidents, not a single conviction had been secured, leaving students from middle-class and poor families to bear the burden of repeated examinations and financial hardship.
Targeting the Centre, Gandhi demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, punishment for those responsible for the alleged police action against student protesters, and a public apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He accused the government of ignoring students’ concerns and urged it to end what he described as a culture of impunity surrounding examination irregularities. Gandhi said the Congress and the Opposition would continue to stand firmly with students demanding accountability and reforms.
Speaking about employment opportunities, Gandhi claimed that young people were facing shrinking career prospects even after completing their education. He argued that opportunities in manufacturing, entrepreneurship, the corporate sector and public employment had become increasingly limited, leaving government jobs as the only option for many aspirants. Reiterating his support for the ongoing student movement, Gandhi said the Congress would continue backing protesters seeking justice over the alleged examination irregularities.
