Mahua Moitra launched a sharp attack on rebel TMC MPs amid reports of a growing split within the party

June 8, 2026: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) witnessed fresh internal turmoil after MP Mahua Moitra strongly defended party chief Mamata Banerjee and targeted leaders allegedly considering a shift to the BJP-led NDA. In a series of social media posts, Moitra described the dissidents as “traitors” and challenged them to resign from Parliament and seek a fresh mandate on a BJP ticket. She stressed that TMC MPs were elected on the party’s symbol and not on an NDA platform.

Moitra also took aim at TMC MP Yusuf Pathan, questioning reports linking him to the rebel camp. Her remarks came as senior leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that nearly 20 TMC Lok Sabha MPs had written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressing support for the NDA. The development has intensified speculation about a possible split within the party, although TMC leadership dismissed the claims and questioned the authenticity of any such communication.

The political crisis deepened further after Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Sekhar Roy resigned from the party and joined a meeting of dissident leaders at the residence of Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in Delhi. The gathering reportedly took place while Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee were attending the INDIA bloc meeting at the Constitution Club. The developments have raised fresh questions about unity within the TMC following its recent electoral setbacks in West Bengal.
