The newly joined Shiv Sena MP triggered a controversy after threatening journalists

June 25, 2026: A fresh political controversy erupted after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Dina Patil allegedly threatened journalists and used abusive language during an interaction with the media. Patil, who recently switched from Shiv Sena (UBT) to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, lost his temper when reporters repeatedly questioned him about allegations made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut. His remarks quickly drew criticism and intensified the ongoing political dispute in Maharashtra.

The controversy began after Sanjay Raut released a letter addressed to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharati, seeking an investigation into Patil’s earlier statements. Raut alleged that Patil had made claims about involvement in killings and issued threats against opponents. He also demanded that police register a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Responding to questions from journalists, Patil warned reporters against repeatedly seeking comments and stated that he would not hesitate to take action if provoked, even making the remarks in the presence of police personnel.

As the issue escalated, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said police would examine the matter if threats had indeed been made. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde later attempted to calm the situation, saying Patil had informed him that he had no intention of threatening journalists and was willing to apologise. Shinde also stressed that the party does not support inappropriate language against the media and highlighted the importance of cooperation between public representatives and journalists.
