Doctors reported that Sonam Wangchuk has lost more than 7 kilograms during his indefinite hunger strike

July 8, 2026: Climate activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk’s health deteriorated further on Wednesday as his indefinite hunger strike entered its 11th day. According to the latest medical bulletin, Wangchuk’s weight has dropped to 59.40 kilograms, marking a loss of more than 7 kilograms since the fast began. Doctors said his blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar and oxygen levels remain stable, while he is adequately hydrated and mentally alert despite the prolonged fast.

Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continued its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the 19th consecutive day, demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks. The protest gained momentum after the Delhi High Court restored the party’s original X account, with CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke describing the decision as a victory for free speech and the movement.

The agitation has received support from several organisations and political groups, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which backed demands for the resignation of the education minister, the abolition of the National Testing Agency (NTA), compensation for affected families and strict action against those responsible for alleged examination irregularities. Members of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) also continued their separate indefinite hunger strike, as the movement over the cancelled NEET-UG examination and subsequent re-test continued to gather public support.
