Geetanjali D. Angmo says family has lost confidence in hospital, seeks immediate discharge for transfer to another medical facility.

July 18, 2026: Activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali D. Angmo, has requested that he be shifted from Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital to another medical facility, alleging a lack of transparency in his treatment and medical reports. In a letter to the Medical Superintendent, Angmo said the family had lost confidence in the hospital’s handling of Wangchuk’s care and urged authorities to complete his discharge formalities at the earliest.

Wangchuk was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday after Delhi Police removed him from his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. According to Angmo, doctors informed the family that his potassium level had fallen to 2.9 on Saturday morning, despite it being recorded at 4.3 at 4:16 pm on July 17. She also alleged that repeated requests for digital or physical copies of his medical reports were denied, raising concerns about the transparency of his treatment.

In her letter, Angmo further claimed that doctors who had been monitoring Wangchuk throughout his 20-day hunger strike were not allowed to meet him after his admission to Safdarjung Hospital. She said these developments had eroded the family’s trust in the hospital and that shifting him to another medical centre was necessary to ensure better treatment, a comprehensive medical evaluation, and his overall well-being. Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 over alleged examination irregularities.
