Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar has issued showcause notices to four former AIADMK MLAs who joined the ruling TVK

June 12, 2026: Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar on Friday confirmed that showcause notices have been issued to four former AIADMK MLAs who later joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The action follows a complaint filed by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. The four legislators — S. Jayakumar, K. Maragadham Kumaravel, Sathya Bama and Isakki Subaya — had supported the government during a key trust vote in May before resigning from the Assembly and formally joining TVK.

According to the Speaker, the notices were issued on June 9 and the former legislators have been asked to submit their explanations within seven days. Prabhakar noted that while 21 rebel AIADMK legislators were pardoned, action was initiated against the four MLAs who switched allegiance. Meanwhile, a 25-member rebel faction led by former minister S.P. Velumani has reportedly reconciled with the AIADMK leadership and agreed to work under Palaniswami’s leadership.

The Speaker also revealed that the Assembly is considering live-streaming its proceedings to enhance transparency. A two-day orientation programme for MLAs will be held in Chennai on June 16 and 17, with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay expected to inaugurate the event. The first Assembly session of the TVK government is scheduled to begin on June 18, during which Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar will deliver his maiden address to the House.
