The reported rebel faction within the Trinamool Congress is set to hold a key meeting in Delhi
June 12, 2026: The internal crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to intensify as the party’s reported rebel faction prepares to hold a meeting in Delhi on Sunday. According to reports, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is expected to be present at the gathering. The rebel group is also scheduled to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday, fuelling speculation about a possible formal split within the party’s parliamentary wing.
Sources claim that 19 out of 20 MPs associated with the dissident camp submitted their names to the Speaker’s Office on May 18. Rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar confirmed that a group of 20 MPs has sought separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha, indicating an organisational divide. The move comes amid growing dissatisfaction within the party following its disappointing performance in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.
The developments have also sparked speculation about possible ties between the rebel camp and the NDA after reports of meetings with Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and BJP leaders. However, no formal merger has been announced. Any split would need to satisfy anti-defection provisions under the Constitution, which require support from at least two-thirds of the parliamentary party. The Trinamool Congress leadership, headed by Mamata Banerjee, has not yet issued an official response.
