As the Trinamool Congress faces a deepening internal crisis, MP Shatrughan Sinha has publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee

June 12, 2026: Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha has strongly backed West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee amid growing unrest within the TMC. Speaking to reporters, Sinha said his loyalty remains firmly with Banerjee and dismissed suggestions of supporting any alternative leadership. “I was with Mamata Didi, I am with Mamata Didi, and I will always be with Mamata Didi,” he said, adding that neither Abhishek Banerjee nor anyone else is his leader apart from Mamata Banerjee.

Calling for unity during the party’s difficult phase, Sinha described Mamata Banerjee as a “mature, tried and tested leader” and said this was the time for party members to stand by her. Referring to his decades-long association with the BJP, he noted that despite spending nearly 30 years in the party, he believes his political home is now with Mamata Banerjee. Reaffirming his commitment, Sinha declared that even if he had to walk alone, he would follow the spirit of “Ekla Chalo Re” and remain with the TMC chief.

Meanwhile, the rebellion within the TMC intensified as dissident MP Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia claimed that 19 Lok Sabha MPs have backed a breakaway faction seeking recognition as the “real TMC” in Parliament. The group has reportedly submitted a representation to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and plans to press its claim next week. The crisis has deepened following a series of resignations by senior leaders, while internal divisions over the role of Abhishek Banerjee continue to widen. Despite the turmoil, leaders including Sougata Roy, Shatrughan Sinha, Pratima Mondal and Babul Supriyo have publicly declared their support for Mamata Banerjee.
