Tensions escalate in West Bardhaman as counting day turns volatile with vandalism and security intervention.
May 4, 2026: A major clash broke out between supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Asansol during the ongoing vote counting in West Bengal. The situation quickly escalated as tensions flared between rival groups gathered near the counting centre.
During the clash, a large number of chairs and property were vandalised, creating panic in the area. Eyewitnesses reported chaos as party supporters engaged in heated confrontations, disrupting the otherwise tightly monitored counting process.
Central security forces deployed at the venue intervened promptly to bring the situation under control. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation as counting continues across the state.
