The expulsion of two TMC legislators has triggered a fresh political controversy, with allegations of irregularities in party documents

June 1, 2026: Fresh political turmoil has surfaced within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after MLAs Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha were expelled from the party. The decision has sparked controversy, with Saha publicly challenging the party’s internal processes and raising concerns over alleged irregularities in official documents related to the selection of the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

Following his expulsion, Saha claimed that the names and signatures of individuals who were allegedly not present at a crucial meeting were included in a proposal submitted by the party. He argued that such discrepancies raise serious questions about the authenticity of the document and the procedures followed during its preparation and submission.

Saha further alleged that Abhishek Banerjee became linked to the controversy because, as the party’s national general secretary, he had signed the list of MLAs attached to the proposal. The controversy comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where recent incidents involving senior TMC leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee, have further intensified the political atmosphere surrounding the party led by Mamata Banerjee.
