The Trinamool Congress plunged deeper into turmoil after Kalyan Banerjee alleged that Yusuf Pathan met Amit Shah in Delhi

June 9, 2026: The internal crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) intensified on Tuesday after senior MP Kalyan Banerjee claimed that fellow parliamentarian Yusuf Pathan travelled to Delhi following a call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Banerjee alleged that several dissident MPs had effectively switched their loyalty from TMC chief Mamata Banerjee to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after meeting BJP leaders, including Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

The controversy escalated after rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that nearly 20 TMC MPs had formally written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressing support for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). TMC MP Mahua Moitra also attacked the rebel camp, directly questioning Yusuf Pathan over reports of his alleged outreach to BJP leaders and accusing dissidents of betraying the party’s mandate.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Pathan rejected speculation that he was asked to resign from the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat to make way for Mamata Banerjee, calling such reports completely false. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly also denied reports suggesting he had acted as an intermediary in the matter. The dissident group’s reported strength is being closely watched, as securing support from two-thirds of TMC MPs could help them avoid disqualification under anti-defection provisions and potentially align with the NDA.
