The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has suspended two engineers over alleged supervisory lapses
May 31, 2026: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended two engineers in connection with the collapse of a four-storey commercial building near Saket Metro Station in South Delhi. Junior Engineer Aman Jain and Assistant Engineer Audesh Singh Chouhan were placed under immediate suspension for alleged failure to exercise effective supervision and negligence related to the property that collapsed in Saidulajab on May 30.
The tragedy has claimed at least six lives, while 10 others have been injured. The building collapsed on Saturday evening in a densely populated area known for paying guest accommodations, coaching centres and student facilities. Rescue teams rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 7:44 pm and began extensive operations to search for survivors trapped beneath the debris.
A multi-agency rescue effort involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services (DFS), Delhi Police, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), MCD, Civil Defence and ambulance services remains underway. Injured victims have been shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. Authorities said search operations will continue until all missing persons are accounted for, while the exact cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
