The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for multiple states, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, and strong winds over the coming days. While several regions are expected to witness intense monsoon activity, parts of East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha may continue to experience heatwave conditions.
According to the weather department, very heavy rainfall is likely in isolated areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. Heavy rain is also expected across Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Kerala, and Vidarbha.
For Delhi-NCR, the IMD has predicted isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of Haryana and Chandigarh.
The Northeast is likely to remain under the influence of active monsoon conditions, with widespread rainfall and isolated heavy showers expected throughout the week. In South India, states such as Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu are also likely to receive significant rainfall.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha despite the advancement of monsoon activity in other regions.
The weather department has advised residents in affected areas to remain cautious, as heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, localized flooding, traffic disruptions, and reduced visibility. Strong winds and lightning may also pose risks to infrastructure and public safety.
Authorities have urged people to stay updated with official weather advisories and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
