The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is expected to discuss Champat Rai’s possible resignation
July 6, 2026: Amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is set to hold a crucial meeting on Monday to discuss key organisational matters, including the possible resignation of its General Secretary, Champat Rai. According to sources, Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati has emerged as the frontrunner for the post, with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), several saints in Ayodhya and many Trust members reportedly backing his name.
Swami Vasudevanand has long been associated with the VHP and played a significant role in the Ram Temple movement. He also served for several years as the Shankaracharya of the Jyotish Peeth, although his claim to the title was not recognised by the Allahabad district court and the Allahabad High Court. The matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court. Despite strong support, sources say the seer has expressed reluctance to take over as General Secretary, believing the Trust’s image has been affected by the ongoing donation controversy.
Sources close to Swami Vasudevanand claim he has no intention of accepting the role and has even considered stepping down from the Trust, saying he joined only to contribute to the construction of the Ram Temple. With the temple now complete, he reportedly sees no reason to continue. Given his reluctance, the Trust is unlikely to appoint a new General Secretary during Monday’s meeting, with members expected to defer the decision until a consensus is reached or another suitable candidate is identified.
