TMC MLA Madan Mitra’s convoy was allegedly attacked with eggs in Kamarhati as local residents voiced anger over alleged illegal collections
June 7, 2026: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and MLA Madan Mitra faced protests in West Bengal’s Kamarhati on Saturday night when a group of residents allegedly hurled eggs at his convoy in the Ariadaha area. The incident occurred after Mitra reportedly visited the locality following reports of unrest. The situation turned tense as protesters targeted the vehicles, while reports also claimed that the MLA’s driver was assaulted during the commotion.
Mitra later stated that he was not inside the vehicle that came under attack and alleged that BJP-backed elements had orchestrated the protest. However, local residents claimed that public dissatisfaction had been growing in the area for some time. According to reports, the protest was linked to allegations of illegal collections from auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers, who had gathered outside a local councillor’s residence demanding the return of money they claimed had been collected over the years.
The incident is the latest in a series of protests directed at senior TMC leaders following the Assembly election results. Just days earlier, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee reportedly faced demonstrations during a visit to Sonarpur, where protesters allegedly threw eggs and stones while raising slogans against him. The latest confrontation is expected to fuel political debate in West Bengal, with both the ruling party and opposition trading accusations over rising public discontent.
