The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed rumours surrounding Rohit Sharma’s ODI future, confirming that the Indian opener continues to remain an important part of the team’s plans.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that the upcoming third ODI against England at Lord’s will not be Rohit Sharma’s final appearance in the 50-over format. He said that there have been no discussions regarding his retirement from ODIs and urged fans to ignore speculation surrounding the veteran batter.

“Rohit Sharma remains a key player for India. There has been no discussion whatsoever about Lord’s being his last ODI. The entire team is focused on the crucial match ahead, and there’s no need to pay attention to such speculation,” Saikia said.

Rumours about Rohit’s ODI future gained momentum after reports suggested that selectors were considering plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup without the former India captain. The speculation increased further after Rohit had modest scores in the first two ODIs of the ongoing England series.

Rohit has already stepped away from T20 internationals after guiding India to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2024 and retired from Test cricket during India’s tour of Australia in 2025. ODIs remain the only international format in which he continues to represent India.

The Mumbai-born cricketer has enjoyed a remarkable ODI career, scoring 11,731 runs in 286 matches. Known for his aggressive batting style and leadership skills, Rohit played a major role in India’s journey to the 2023 ODI World Cup final and later led the team to the 2025 Champions Trophy title.

With the BCCI backing his continued involvement, Rohit Sharma’s focus now remains on the ongoing England ODI series and contributing to India’s future campaigns.
