Kuwait faced its most intense wave of attacks since the latest regional conflict erupted, with four Kuwaiti navy personnel injured after a naval vessel was struck during a large-scale missile and drone assault. The attack came as the United States reinstated its blockade on Iranian ports and coastal shipping, further escalating tensions across the Gulf.

According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense, Tuesday’s assault involved five cruise missiles, one ballistic missile, and 33 drones—the highest number of projectiles launched against the country in a single day since hostilities intensified.

The Kuwaiti military said the strikes targeted several “vital” civilian and strategic facilities, although it did not disclose the exact locations. Debris from intercepted projectiles fell across multiple areas, causing additional damage. The ministry confirmed that four defense personnel were injured after a Kuwaiti naval ship was hit during the attack.

Kuwait Remains One of the Hardest-Hit Gulf Nations

Kuwait has emerged as one of the countries most severely affected by the ongoing conflict. Since the fighting escalated, several critical installations—including military bases, oil refineries, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s headquarters, the international airport, and other strategic infrastructure—have repeatedly come under attack.

Earlier this week, a drone strike targeted an offshore drilling platform operated by Kuwait Oil Company, damaging the facility and injuring one worker. Separate attacks on three northern border locations also caused structural damage.

The latest barrage further highlights the growing security challenges facing the Gulf nation as regional instability deepens.

At Least 16 Attacks Since April Ceasefire

According to official figures, Kuwait has suffered at least 16 attacks since the United States and Iran agreed to a temporary ceasefire on April 8. The Gulf nation has recorded more casualties than any other Gulf Arab country during that period.

However, the fragile truce has now effectively collapsed. In recent days, fresh attacks have been reported on commercial tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, while countries including Qatar, Jordan, and Bahrain have also witnessed strikes. Tankers linked to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar have similarly come under attack, raising concerns over the security of one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.

US Resumes Blockade on Iranian Shipping

The renewed escalation follows Washington’s announcement that it has reimposed its blockade on Iranian shipping, targeting vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas. The blockade officially took effect at 4 p.m. Washington time on Tuesday.

Alongside the maritime restrictions, US forces launched another round of military strikes on Iranian targets. American officials said the operations are intended to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

Strategic Importance of Kuwait

Kuwait has hosted thousands of US military personnel since the 1991 Gulf War, when an international coalition liberated the country from Iraqi occupation. American forces continue to operate from five military bases in Kuwait, including Ali Al-Salem Air Base, which has been targeted multiple times since the conflict with Iran intensified earlier this year.

With missile attacks becoming more frequent and the collapse of diplomatic efforts, security analysts warn that the Gulf region could face a prolonged period of instability, with vital energy infrastructure and international shipping routes remaining at heightened risk.
