The injury woes continue to pile up for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, with young batter Ayush Mhatre ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

The franchise confirmed the development through its official social media handles on Tuesday, stating that Mhatre sustained a left hamstring injury while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.

In its statement, the team said,

“Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.”

The statement further added that the injury will require a rehabilitation period of six to twelve weeks, effectively ending the youngster’s campaign for the season.

Injury Occurred During Match Against SRH

The 18-year-old batter was batting aggressively during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad when the injury occurred. Mhatre scored 30 runs off just 13 balls before suffering discomfort while running between the wickets alongside CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Team physios attended to him immediately on the field, but he appeared to be in significant discomfort, raising concerns about the severity of the injury — concerns that have now been confirmed by the franchise.

One Of CSK’s Few Bright Spots This Season

Despite Chennai Super Kings’ inconsistent campaign this year, Ayush Mhatre had emerged as one of the standout performers for the side.

The young right-handed batter registered two half-centuries in six matches, making him the leading run-scorer for CSK in IPL 2026 so far. His absence is expected to significantly weaken the team’s already struggling batting lineup.

For a team looking to regain form midway through the season, losing one of its most consistent performers represents a major setback.

CSK Injury List Continues To Grow

Mhatre’s injury adds to a growing list of unavailable players in the Chennai Super Kings squad.

The team is already without iconic former captain MS Dhoni, who is currently recovering from a calf strain. There has been no official confirmation yet regarding his return timeline.

Earlier setbacks include:

  • Overseas pacer Nathan Ellis being ruled out even before the start of the tournament.
  • Left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed suffering a right quadricep injury that ended his participation in the season.

With multiple key players sidelined, CSK’s depth is being tested heavily in IPL 2026.

Replacement Yet To Be Announced

As of now, Chennai Super Kings have not named a replacement for Ayush Mhatre in the squad. The team management is expected to evaluate available options soon as the season progresses.

Given the mounting injury concerns, the coming matches could prove crucial for CSK as they attempt to stabilise their campaign and remain competitive in the league standings.
