The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it clear that discussions surrounding India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup will remain confidential. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board will not publicly discuss strategic planning or the future of individual players.

His remarks come at a time when speculation continues over whether senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be part of India’s squad for the next World Cup.

BCCI Refuses to Comment on Individual Players

Speaking in an interview with PTI, Saikia avoided giving any direct answer about the futures of Rohit and Kohli.

He said the discussions taking place within the BCCI are strategic in nature and are not meant to be shared publicly.

According to Saikia, all important decisions are made after consulting every stakeholder involved with Indian cricket.

Selection Process Is an Ongoing Exercise

Saikia explained that the board regularly discusses the team’s future with the cricket committee, selectors, coaching staff and players.

“We have a very well-knit team and a lot of experts. All stakeholders are taken on board,” he said.

He added that the decision-making process includes the cricket committee, selection panel, support staff, head coach and the players concerned.

Because these discussions happen regularly, he said there is no need for any special meeting to decide the team’s long-term plans.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Continue to Be in Focus

Rohit Sharma, 39, and Virat Kohli, 37, retired from Test and T20I cricket but continue to represent India in One-Day Internationals.

Both batting legends have reportedly expressed their desire to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup, despite questions over their age by the time the tournament begins.

However, neither chief selector Ajit Agarkar nor head coach Gautam Gambhir has confirmed whether the experienced duo will be part of India’s plans.

Saikia also maintained the same position, choosing not to reveal anything about the board’s internal discussions.

BCCI Says Strategic Discussions Will Remain Confidential

The BCCI secretary stressed that boardroom conversations should remain private.

“I do not think I should disclose anything before the media or the public because these are strategic discussions,” Saikia said.

He further added that he is not authorised to discuss internal deliberations and believes such matters should stay within the boardroom.

India Begins Long-Term Planning

Although the BCCI has not confirmed any names for the 2027 World Cup squad, Saikia’s comments indicate that planning for the tournament is already underway.

The board appears focused on evaluating all available options while keeping its long-term strategy confidential. As India’s next World Cup campaign approaches, speculation over the futures of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is expected to continue until official selection decisions are made.
