New Delhi: BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has firmly dismissed speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s international future, stating that there is “no question” of the Indian captain retiring from international cricket anytime soon.
Rumours about Rohit’s future had intensified in recent weeks, with several media reports claiming that the ODI series against England could mark his final appearance for India. However, the veteran opener silenced critics in spectacular fashion by smashing 138 off 110 balls in the third ODI at Lord’s, becoming the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at the iconic venue.
Rajeev Shukla Rejects Retirement Speculation
Addressing the ongoing speculation, Shukla made it clear that Rohit remains an integral part of India’s plans.
“Rohit Sharma is a part of our team and is continuing to play. The things being circulated in the media and on social media have no meaning. As of now, there is no question of his retirement,” Shukla told reporters.
BCCI Backs Current Leadership
Shukla also threw his weight behind the existing leadership group, saying India’s recent performances leave little reason for major changes.
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the decision on who stays in the team and who does not rests with the selectors. The Indian team is performing well and winning matches, so there is no need for any changes at present,” he added.
His comments come amid growing debate over the future of several senior players as India continues preparations for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
