New Zealand will begin their five-match ODI series against the West Indies on July 12 at Providence Stadium, Guyana, as the Black Caps look to make a strong start to their Caribbean tour.
While New Zealand will be adapting to unfamiliar conditions, the hosts will aim to capitalize on home advantage and set the tone in the opening match. The first three ODIs will be played in Guyana before the action shifts to Barbados for the final two games.
West Indies Team News
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 15-member squad for the opening three ODIs, with teenage wrist-spinner Vitel Lawes receiving his maiden international call-up.
The 19-year-old earned his opportunity after an impressive ICC Under-19 World Cup campaign, where he claimed 10 wickets, bowled the most dot balls in the tournament and was named in the Team of the Tournament.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Shamar Springer has withdrawn from the squad following the passing of his mother. Keemo Paul has been named as his replacement after recently joining the West Indies Test squad as cover.
New Zealand Team News
New Zealand have welcomed back experienced fast bowler Jacob Duffy, who returns to international cricket after missing recent assignments due to paternity leave following the birth of his first child.
Veteran all-rounder Mitchell Santner will captain the Black Caps during the ODI series.
The visitors have also included Matthew Fisher, who could make his ODI debut during the tour.
However, frontline pacers Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, and Will O’Rourke have been rested as New Zealand continues to carefully manage the workload of its fast bowlers.
